Dating etc..

I get quite a few emails from people who visit my other site (www.matt-thornton.net) asking me if I’m single or if I get dates as a result of my websites.

First answer is simply no, I don’t get dates from the site. Most people don’t like geeks. Although I got accused of being a supernerd (a cute one, but nevertheless a supernerd) which I don’t think I am…

Second answer is I am single… and er, looking ;)

Funny spam…

I have to stop writing about spam, but anyway… the new breed of spam is beginning to amuse me – i.e. the auto robot spam that is posting comments to my blog. For example, one of my posts here was about the company “boikot” – and the robots thoought that a good place to put spam about viagra. They even try to add “relevant” comments… “I have found the discussion here to be most useful”.

I’ve never done it; but if I was ever to send out spam (or write viruses for that matter) then I reckon I would do a much better job of what is actually written in the emails. Instead of the usual “OPEN ME OPEN ME! I’m not a virus or spam or anything, honest” I reckon I could write them so people actually do open them.

And no, I wouldn’t rely on advertising that freaking Paris Hilton video either.

6th of January

And there are already bloody creme eggs and mini eggs on the shelves of Tesco’s. Really, I haven’t even paid off the credit card bill from Christmas yet and they’re selling Easter already. God damn consumerism gone mad.

Last day

Of my holiday. Flying back to England later tonight. Grr. For what it’s worth the holiday has been great – though New Years was shite. Didn’t even go out, didn’t drink my bodyweight in vodka. This was, admittedly, partly due to my brother getting married on New Years day and that I was best man and vomit in the middle of a wedding ceremony probably isn’t the most wished for wedding gift, but still. But, anyway, I’m quite pleased to be going home… it’s been a long few weeks and I’m looking forward to getting home for a rest!

Oh, and if an American ever says to me they like England except for the weather I’ll laugh in their face. The weather here for the last couple of weeks has been far worse than we would expect in England!

Dumb spam

I hate spam as much as the next guy, I really do, but sometimes you just have to laugh. Today is the 5th of January, 2004. I just got some spam with the title “Get a date for New Years!!”. Spam that is late!

I just found this unique piece of advice on how to h4ck a Hotmail account:

“Use Telnet to connect to port 110 (Hotmail’s Server). Type user and then the victim’s username. Type Pass and then the guess a password. Repeat that until you have found the correct password. ”

I have to admit, that is foolproof. Really. I can’t believe more people haven’t thought of it and that Hotmail haven’t patched against someone entering the correct username and password combination!
