What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer affecting the abdominal cavity, chest cavity, and the region surrounding the heart. Due to its uncommon nature, mesothelioma is typically difficult to diagnose and treat. It has been connected with exposure to asbestos, a material formerly present in many work environments. Only about 3,000 individuals are diagnosed annually.
Individuals with a history of extended asbestos exposure are at the highest risk for developing malignant mesothelioma. Even a small exposure to this cancer-causing material can result in malignant mesothelioma. However, mesothelioma has a latency of up to thirty-forty years, and many individuals previously exposed to asbestos are now displaying symptoms. This means the average age of mesothelioma patients is between 50 and 70 years. Men are typically affected more, due to the common presence of asbestos in industrial settings. There are three major types of malignant mesothelioma . epithelial, sarcomatoid, and mixed. Epithelial mesothelioma is most common. Symptoms may include, but are not limited to respiratory distress, a lasting cough, and pneumonia. In addition, symptoms are often mistaken for less serious ailments, and many patients do not show any signs at all.
Individuals with pleural mesothelioma may accumulate some fluid between the lung lining and chest cavity. This can be detected through a chest x-ray, as well as CT scans.
Diagnosis of Mesothelioma is based on a pathological exam, more commonly referred to as a biopsy. This exam will test a tissue sample for the presence of malignant and/or pleural mesothelioma.

Asbestos as the Primary Cause of MesotheliomaAsbestos is a type of insulation material, which was used widely in the past in the following industries:
* Construction industry
* Ship building industry
* Automotive industry
* Other manufacturing industriesMesothelioma occurred most often in persons who worked in the above industries and were exposed to asbestos in their workplace. The use of asbestos was very widespread after 1945. However, first symptoms of mesothelioma may not become apparent 10-40 years after the initial exposure, which makes it very hard to diagnose. The peak in mesothelioma cases is expected to be reached around 2010 according to some studies. There are three most commonly used types of asbestos: white, brown, and blue. Brown and blue asbestos are most commonly associated with mesothelioma. These types of asbestos have been banned by most countries in the 1990s.
Asbestos is a very dangerous substance and can cause a lot of damage to your health. It is made up of very small fibers, which can find their way to pleura (outside lining of the lung) and damage the cells pleura is made of. These fibers can also be carried on clothing, which makes them dangerous not only to the person exposed to asbestos, but to their family members as well.
Note of UrgencyMesothelioma is a life-threatening disease and cannot be left untreated. The sooner it is diagnosed the better a patient’s chances are of fighting this deadly cancer. Please contact a qualified physician immediately if you or someone you know has been diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Why have I posted this?
Dear all,
The planned building works for the Dept. due to the asbestos in the walls has been scheduled for this Summer [dates].
Yours,
[dept. administrator]
Always nice to know.
The sickening feeling of sitting down, on the bowl, unleashing your delivery, looking straight ahead to where the roll ought to be, and realising that it’s empty. And there’s not a new one in the house. The situation is no-win.
At least I finally found a use for the magasine version of ZOO magazine, though*.
* not a recommended substitute for frequent use. Or reading, for that matter.
Well not really. But I will be. That’s all I’m saying. I don’t want to go the long way round about the details, but will soon. I promise.
It seems politicians, on occasions, are capable of doing something vaguely right. Forever there’s bickering between parties, leaders, countries, independent action groups blah blah blah. They’re always banging on about what they could do and why their policies are better than everyone elses and hey, vote for us and it’s a vote for ARRRRRRGH. Enough. They say all this stuff, but never actually do it. Well, the debt relief for poor countries seems to be a step in the right direction. It’s not the only answer, but it’s at least a start. The debt that these countries face is crippling to their chance of ever getting themselves out of poverty. Sure, they’re in debt for a squillion reasons and lalala… who cares. They’re in debt, we can help them, so we are.
But the saddening thing? It was so short-lived. In amongst the clamour of the fantastic news, there’s this political gem. I mean seriously. “Hey guys, we all know that this big fat conference we’re gonna have is basically gonna contribute more damage to the environment in 2 days than pretty much the whole of Taunton does in a year, but well, I know, here’s a paltry £50k to some random cause in Africa.” Puhleeeeze. Leaders have just written off some £22bn worth of debt… again 22 BILLION pounds, and somehow 50 thousand quid is enough to make up for a bunch of fat politicians eating caviar in the backs of their helicopters. It’s outright madness.
If politicians had any kind of sense, they wouldn’t need to offer this £50k, they would just actually have a conference which IS green. I mean, for fuck’s sake.
I’ve taken three days off from work to recoup a bit. Somehow I feel more tired than before. I’m still working at the club, and playing cricket, and spending a large amount of time on my computer, so really there’s no difference between working, really. I need to learn how to relax better.
My very own attempt at a comic strip. Comedy genius no doubt. Should be up later.
UPDATE: He’s here!.
This is quite frightening. I was quite bored, so was messing about Google. I did a link:matt-thornton.net search. Usual guff came up.
Except for this: http://www.flirting-and-seduction.com/gayseduction/
Thanks to the quotes page, which I assume is the quote about practicing the art of seduction, I’m now being linked to by some gay flirting seduction site. (It’s actually a robot site and makes no sense, but still). Hah!
