I’m thinking that’s not the correct implementation of a recursive function ;)

Google homepage is awesome

I stumbled over it by mistake, when I found out at about the new Da Vinci code quest – you access the game via your “personalised homepage”. I’ve never bothered with these portal type sites before – never used Yahoo, or MSN etc. because they don’t interest me. I like to find the information I want to see, rather than be given recommend viewing.

But after playing with the Google homepage for a little while, I was quite pleased. It’s very easy to add channels – i.e., the blocks which deliver information to you – and there are existing blocks for popular sites, like BBC News, Sport, Reuters, Sky etc. But what’s really neat is how you can simply add an RSS feed and it appears has a block. OK, so its not a proper aggregator, but then it was probably never designed for that.

And of course you can quickly and easily do a Google search.

I’ll be trying it out in the coming days as my homepage – as long as it doesn’t take a weekt to load, then it looks like a lot of fun.

New Da Vinci Code quest thing

A new Da Vinci code online quest has been released in anticipation of the release of the film. And of course, I’ve written a guide to it… BTW, if you need a GMail account to sign in to the Google site, then let me know.

Interesting stat

Next month on the 4th at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be
01:02:03 04/05/06.

That won’t ever happen again in our life time.

Bargain value

If you’re in the UK, be sure to check out Choices UK for all your DVD and CD needs. They’re even cheaper than Play.

For example, compare prices on:
Complete DVD boxset of Friends (RRP, 199.99)

  • Play: 124.99 and Sold Out
  • ChoicesUK: 99.96 and in stock.

Band of Brothers, Special Edition Tin Boxset (RRP 59.99)

  • Play: 49.99
  • ChoicesUK: 31.99

and many other bargains to be had. Both offer free delivery. The cheap prices are all due to a wonderful VAT loophole. But you should get in there quick, as the loophole is being closed – the likes of Asda, Tesco, Amazon, Boots, HMV and Woolworths have all been told to get out by a recent policy change. As it stands Play.com might be the only one unaffected. ChoicesUK claim to have registered offices in Guernsey, but they might still be forced out. More on the VAT loophole.

First time ever!

Yes, that’s right, I’m no longer a virgin. On my cricket blog, over at Six and Out, I got some Chinese spam! I have no idea if this will display correctly, but here goes nothing:

which according to Babelfish, which was sketchy as best, has something to do with electricity, tickets and and a company of some sort. I know China is strict on their control of the web – surely SPAM should be included in their cloak?

New blog new blog new blog

My latest blog effort, in association with b5media has finally gone live – have a little christmas cookie at Six and Out. And gosh darnit if releasing a cricket blog on the first day of the new domestic season wasn’t just the best timing in the whole world (which went typically – it rained all morning). So yes please y’all, check me out, live on t’interweb.
