I used bike-breakers.info to find some parts for my bike. This is not a dig at them cos they did what they said and I was put in contact with a few people who thought they had parts for my bike. One part I was after was a fairing panel for my ‘99 CBR600FX.
Breakingpoint.co.uk (based in Aberdeen) contacted me saying they had one, in great condition, for £80. They even emailed me a picture of it and yes, it looked in great condition. SO I bought it. Because I live in the Channel Islands they posted it to me for £20. I received the panel today, and it is in good condition (needs a good clean, but there’s no scratches etc.) all except for one glaring omission on their part:
It has a bloody datatag on it. In a really obvious position (but a position that is not visible from the photo they sent me). For those who don’t know, a Datatag is a security device/mark which is a unique combination of numbers and letters which is used to uniquely identify a bike, for example, in the event that the bike gets stolen.
I phoned them about it and they:
The thing that really pisses me off is that they lie about it – the datatag was practically the first thing I saw when I took the panel out of the box – there is absolutely no way they could have not seen it, yet they claim that they didn’t.
They also think that having two different datatag marks on my bike (because I already have a datatag) is going to make absolutely no difference to my bike. Whereas I think it would look bloody ridiculous AND importantly that if I ever came to sell the bike, should the potential buyer see the two marks (which they would) then it’s going to instantly make them think twice (or at the very least realise that I’ve had to change the panel).
So my advice is to stay well clear of them as they’re blatantly dishonest.
I used bike-breakers.info to get a set of carbs for my bike, and got a reply from a company called Moto Breakers. They sent me a set of carbs, with one of them having a couple of cracks in it, so I sent it back. They refused me a refund and accused me of swapping the carbs even before they received them back. Then they said to prove that I hadn’t done it I had to send them my non-working ones. Unbelievable! I’m trying the Parts Gateway now to see if I can locate a set, where at least you can leave feedback on the breaker who sent you the part.
Thanks for your comment Mike.
I saw this and thought I’d add my contribution to balance the books a bit – I used Moto-Breakers when I bought my CBR, phoned them for some bits I wanted to replace on the Thursday I picked it up and they arrived on the Saturday morning. No problems and excellent service from those guys for me, anyway.
had probs with moto breakers also
sent wrong part, admitted it.offered refund then tried to take postage for something i dont have.
im having to bring them to scotland for small claims which will probably cost even more, but hey i have principles and it will cost them to come up to scotland.
I’ve just had a similar experience with Moto Breakers, the place in Doncaster right?
I’m planning to go to small claims, but I’ve lost the receipt with the address on it, does anyone have it?
having read the quotes (ripped off)i would like to say were not here to rip customers off, we provide a good service & try our best to sort any problems out in a proper manor.some customers swap internal carb bits around, send there faulty bits back to us, iv seen it all.bruno you got your bits even though you rang us up swearing at staff etc, you was offered a full refund which you wouldent accept, try telling a two sided tale!!!!scottish lad.we arranged a pick up but you wasnt in, at £15 a time so we tried again a second time and bingo you was there, why should we pay for your no show. so tell the truth instead off half a story. in general lads you can gripe on but i know each and every one of you have been treated fairly.my ebay feedback dosent lie, 4 years worth of 350 posative feedback.5 negative from new users who bought bikes & didnt pay.any other customers with any complaints call the shop, if you have a valid complaint it will be sorted. shaun. moto breakers owner.
Ah, good to see Shaun is still up to his old tricks.
Still waiting for a refund for an engine that came with the engine number ground off and polished and a poor attempt to re-stamp it. Strangely could not provide any documentation about it.
Avoid this company like the plague.
the above comments were left by robin goodwin from scottland, robin befor you slander any furthur please put your name to it.he purchases a engine from us, supplied and in good working order, the engine number wasnt ground off as he would have you belive, it had the engine pre fix number. not re stamped.we have bought 3 honda rry recently and all recipts & reg numbers were offered, so robin STOP TELLING LIES.you was upset because i wouldent supply you with a alternator casing THAT IT,the engine number wasnt a issue for the first month, thats just something you threw in a month later after you dug your heels in when i wouldent supply you extre parts for free, you spat your DUMMY out and demanded a full re fund, well if you think i was sending a engine to scottland & bringing it back cos you expected extras in the purchase that wasnt agreed to start with, think again, you left it 2 months & posted it back without any notice even after full documented purchase recipts & even the offer a replacement engine was offered.WE DID ALL WE COULD TO MAKE THIS CUSTOMER HAPPY, BUT YOU CANT PLEASE EVERYBODY & I WILL RESPOND TO ANY COMPLAINTS & HAVE THE BOLLOCKS TO PUT MY NAME TO IT, ROBIN,YOU WILL BE RECIVING A SOLICITORS LETTER NECT WEEK.
