Movie Reviews

I’ve added a bunch of movie reviews recently, and I’m linking them in here:

Wicker Park
Welcome to the Jungle
Bridget Jones - Edge of Reason

So if you like my humourous witterings in the blog, check out my reviews for more of the same!

Losers. Bunch of losers.

Star Wars fans have started queuing seven weeks early for the opening
of the final movie - but appear to have camped outside the wrong cinema.

Name that Dog

I’m looking for the breed of Dog in Bruce Almighty. The best I can turn up is “mixed breed” (lots of info: here). If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Mail order DVDs

I’ve signed up on a free trial of the Blockbuster delivery service. I’ll let you know how I get on, but so far, I’d say it’s average. There’s no doubt the service is very easy to use, the website has everything you could ever want and is very intuitive, indeed the delivery and packaging of the DVDs are excellent, and the turnaround time is good, but, and this, considering the service is a pretty hefty but, they haven’t been the best at sending me DVDs I actually want to see.

The way it works is you login to the website, create a massive list of all the DVDs you want, and they send you them. You’re allowed three at a time, so if you’re clever, you can pretty much always have a DVD waiting for you to watch. As I said, the delivery has been excellent, but so far, I have not been receiving items at the top of my list. Inevitably, you add a bunch of films that you might quite like to see, but not too fussed at all. So I did that, and have been receiving them, rather than all the mustsees that I also added to the list. So this is either due to me filling my list with crap, or, and I suspect this is more likely, that their supply of the popular films is quite limited, and a result, it’ll take a while before you receive them.

I expect there are some good tactics to master here, but it’s gonna take a while to do it. Unless of course you’re really not fussy and will watch any old crap, in which case, this service is probably for you.

They do a free trial so it’s worth a crack. If you are considering using the service, please, let me recommend you! It’ll get me some cash! If you’re interested, just drop me a line. Cheers!

Change to site.

All the movie reviews are now in a separate section on the website. This integrates the review system that I wrote ages ago for a different site. I’ll still be posting “movie guff” here on the website, but keep that part of the site checked if you want to follow my humourous ramblings on films.

Round Up

I’ve been busy with a lot of things, so haven’t posted much. So here’s a quick round up of what’s been keeping me busy and (somewhat) amused:

- The Trojans Cricket club AGM. Tediousness redefined (put simply, a bunch of uninteresting people talking about uninteresting things).
- Ronnie O’Sullivan trounced anyone who got in his way to win the Snooker Masters
- England lost again, and again.
- Spongebob Squarepants - it’s like Ren and Stimpy, only more stupid (if that’s possible). An enjoyable little flick, if not a little irritating in places.
- C++ headaches and discoveries aplenty… from argv to .h files and all sorts of weird and wonderful crashes, my daily programming ritual has kept me well and truly under the kosh.
- My latest web project has finally gone live, and I’ve been paid for it. Just a few more tweaks to get done and it’ll be D&D.
- General and blogs have got well away from me as I’ve had no time to keep up to date.
- My bike has had its first proper outing since the Winter (though you’d be forgiven for thinking we’re still in Winter for what the weather’s been doing recently). I’ve given her a bit of a tweak, with some funky new short stem indicators/side repeaters, and short of a bit of a service (oil/plugs/tyres) we’re good to go.
- I’ve been asked to peer-review a chapter of a forthcoming book on Self Organising Models (in GIS). Should be a right giggle.
- I’ve got the utmost pleasure of meeting my girlfriend’s friends tonight over a friendly session of 10 pin bowling.
- Have been receiving job emails which has made me start thinking about what I’ll do when I finish this here PhD. It’s look like some sort of GIS product development role, but where, how, when and who with are yet to be decided. It’s either that or a caravan in Cornwall.
- I let SPAM Karma do its business with SPAM and blog, and it turns out it had missed a whole pantload of dodgy comments.

And that’s about it really. Don’t miss the latest Weebl and Bob and Get Fuzzy, Calvin and Hobbes and Dilbert (through Comics.com) which always put a smile on my face in the mornings.

Ciao for now.

The Godfather

Apparently, Marlon Brando repeatedly refused to play the part of Don Corleone in The Godfather. With hindsight, it was probably a pretty good decision on his part to do it in the end, given that it basically defined his career.

Imagine though if someone else had got the part? Instead of Marlon Brando saying things like:

What have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully? If you’d come to me in friendship, then this scum that ruined your daughter would be suffering this very day. And if by chance an honest man like yourself should make enemies, then they would become my enemies. And then they would fear you. (IMDB)

Can you imagine if Sylvestor Stallone had done it?

Addddriiiiiennnnnnnnneeeee… I luuuuuuuvveeee you…..

What if Robert Kilroy-Silk had done it?

Hello and good morning. Good morning and hello. Now. Families. Important? Or are they? Or aren’t they? You decide.

You might have had Joe Pasquali:

I know a song that will get on your families nerves, get on your families nerves, get on your families nerves…

…or Ali G:

Why is it you is disrespecting my family? Is it cos I is black?

How about George Bush?

I recognise that the family is the heart of the family and that without family you don’t have a family.

Or Bill Clinton…

I did not have sexual relations with anyone in your family.

Interesting.
