One iTunes/iPod Touch/iPhone app you must use

Despite its failings as a phone, I really did like bits of the iPhone. The interface is amazing. The apps and app store stuff is brilliant. And whilst I love my Archos, as a Mac & iTunes user, getting music on to it and syncing and all that sort of stuff was just a nightmare I could no longer live with. So the obvious choice was to get an iPod Touch. So I have a 2nd gen 32gb iPod Touch and it really is brilliant. OK, so it’s missing the GPS, but other than that, it has all the benefits of the iPhone, minus the crappy phone bit.

And that, in particular, means apps. Yes, there’s been a hoohar over Apple’s policing of what apps it deems to be acceptable, but that does ultimately mean that the apps available to you are top notch. And one of those is the ITunes Remote*. It’s so simple – it connects to your shared iTunes library over wireless, and turns your iPod Touch or iPhone in to a full featured remote for your iTunes library. Which means, if used in conjunction with say Airport Express to distribute music around your house, you can have a really – erm – awesome home media thing. Your computer with iTunes can be anywhere in your house, you can have speakers wherever you are, and all you need is your Touch to adjust what’s playing. It works brilliantly. And – it’s free!

Thumbs up.

* I don’t know how to link to a iTunes app, but if you access the store, look in the free section and it’ll be there.

We are the mushrooms.

So remember I mentioned the CI Cup? Well, we won. That’s right. Oh yes.

Writeups: here and here.

And yet more coverage in the Guernsey Press, where I somehow found my ugly mug (albeit in fortunately low-resolution) on both the front and back pages.

Awesome.

P.S. Fcking get in there!

Blast from the past

One of the funniest TV shows ever: Whose Line Is It Anyway? Friday night, around 1030pm was always a humourous time if you weren’t our drinking (in which case, it was perfect hangover fodder for the morning after.)

And if you didn’t know, the (original) UK version was a lot better than the US version, despite featuring the majority of the same, predominantly American or Canadian, comedians. Richard Vranch (on the piano) was one of the smoothest men on television.

Heaps more at YouTube. What’s fantastic about the show is, because it’s all improvisation, you get genuine, fresh comedy, from genuine, fresh comedians. So rather than relying on a script as a lot of entertainers do nowadays, you get to see if people are genuinely funny.

And who better to illustrate my point, than Robin Williams:

Pure gold.

Video Interlude – Mexico

A brief interpose to the usual witty and genial banterings for a video update. The first, one of the coolest things I have ever seen: a TV on a lightswitch. Every house should have one. Found in a hotel in Morelia, Mexico.

The second, some random Mexican singing. Found in a bar in Mexico City, one is a (drunk) Mexican, the second (doing his best Che Guevara impression) is a (drunk) American. I have no idea what they were singing about, but it was entertaining nevertheless.
