Choosing a Car – playing with StripThis!

So WAY back in 2005, I put together a silly little comic called Fingers. I have no idea what was going through my head at the time. I imagine it was to try and improve my photoshop skills. Pretty clear to see that it didn’t work as I still suck at Photoshop.

I recently stumbled across StripThis! – a fairly nifty HTML/CSS/JS based natural language (ish) style comic generator. The premise is you type your script – using a predefined list of keywords – and it does the rest in terms of assembling the content. So I figured I’d have a quick play.

It’s dead easy to get going – just download the source, open up Comic Studio in your web browser, and enter your script, using the helper function to figure out what’s valid.

So here is my effort: how you go about choosing a car as you go through life.

The script itself is 45 lines long, although there’s only really a block of 4 lines repeated for each panel. It’s a little bit fiddly to get going with but that’s mainly due to not being familiar with the available syntax. All in all, though, this is really quite incredible and well worth a play.

FWIW, I also found this: cmx.io – a tool for creating XKCD style cartoons; I’ll have a play with that at some point too (if I can figure out the installation.)
