You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.
You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.
finally... a batman film that's almost watchable
Everyone knows that all the other Batman films have been utter tosh. The first one was just about OK, but the rest have been shite of the highest order. This one is not special, but it is a lot better than usual.
Everyone knows the Batman story, and this one spends a lot of time setting up why he became Batman at all (watching his parents get killed when he was a wee lad). He has vowed to never fear evil people and do his best to protect and serve. So when Gotham City is going down the pan to drugs and he discovers and evil plot to destroy the city by an evil bloke, then he decides enough is enough and it's time for him to help.
The cast is very very strong in this. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson and Gary Oldman... they must have begged and pleaded to get them in there. And there's Katie Holmes with her slightly bent but oh-so-cute smile. Christian Bale is probably the most unknown of them all (even though he's been around a while), but does a pretty good job as Batman.
Altogether it's quite enjoyable. It is after all a Batman film, so it's never going to win any awards, but for a nice simple easy to watch action flick, you can't go too far wrong with this.
