You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.
You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.
typical steely teach does right thing
Based on a true story, Coach Carter is a basketball film about a bunch of kids who are crap at basketball and thick as pig shit. But when legendary school basketball player Ken Carter agrees to coach them, things change.
The players have talent but need direction. Coach Carter teaches them how to play, but is strict in the physical and mental development, making them do well in school. Yadayada, people get pissed off cos they get benched for not doing well in school. Usual.
It's an entertaining film. Completely predictable. You know what's gonna happen. Let's face it, it was always going to end happily ever after.
It's got some good basketball sequences in it, and the kids do a good fist of being troubled youths in need of direction. Slick production and Jackson is impeccable. No real surprises, but an entertaining watch.
