You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.
You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.
do not watch this film
Nicole Kidman is great. We love her. Beautiful and sexy, a good actress with a string of great films behind her.
This is, however, without doubt, the biggest pile of shit in the history of films, and she's got to be wondering why she ever did it.
(Actually, I'm sure she's not, because she's definitely on a "alternative" film rampage at the minute, but she should have stayed well away from this).
Kidman is a woman on the run from some mob of people, finds a small village in the hills and ends up living there for a while. Blah blah, they get suspicious and start treating her like shit. In the end the mob turns up, they turn her in to them, turns out it's actually her father and the village gets blown to shit.
It's not a good film, and I don't care what Cannes or anyone else says. It's not clever, the direction is not inspirational (the whole theatre set not a real movie, white lines for buildings crap) and the film is slow, dull and boring. And loooooong too. It's 2 and half hours, but you're already wondering when it'll end after 20 minutes.
Do not rent this film. Period.
