You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.

You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.

Endless Summer 2

the one line review:

totally awesome

the overview

Endless Summer I was a classic. Endless Summer II promised to never be as good. Only because sequels are always crap. But this was stunning, an absolute treat.

the plot:

The journey depicted in Endless Summer I - where two surfers tour the world looking to surf Summer waves all year round - is revisited by 2 new surfers, Pat O'Connell and Robert Weaver. They revisit some of the places from the first film, as well as a few new ones.

the verdict:

This is a total treat. If I could give it a 6 (out of 5) I would have. This is one of the few films where I actually watched the credits as well (and you should, they're funny).

The film is chock full of some stunning surf sequences, but what makes this film, which is really more of a documentary is the commentary by writer and director Bruce Brown. It'll have you in stitches.

The cinematography is stunning, and it's not just surfing, it really is a true "surfari" - two blokes searching for surf.

It features some very famous names (though when this film was made the names were nowhere near as famous as they are today), like Kelly Slater and Laird Hamilton.

Quite simply a masterpiece.
