You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.
You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.
lee evans should stick to stand up
Yes it is that Lee Evans, the Lee Evans from the stand up shows, with the moronic expressions, outrageous voices and incessant use of the word fuck. Jack Dee's prodigy who turned into a unique comedy experience himself. I love Lee Evans' stand up comedy, it's just a shame that his few movie outings haven't been quite so successful.
Sean Veil (Evans) is falsely accused of murder, but is acquitted. But in the 10 years after his accusal he has become paranoid about the prospect of ever being accused of murder again and has taken to filming himself 24 hours a day. His home is a labyrinth of filmed rooms and if he leaves his house he maintains a "self-cam" at all times.
On the 10th anniversary of the woman he allegedly killed, a plot reveals itself to frame him again for the murder. Sean is inextricably involved and must do everything he can to maintain his innocence.
It's a really nice idea, but it's not all that great. It's very dark and a bit gruesome but Evans, even with a shaved head and no eyebrows, somehow doesn't quite pull it off. He has the nervous jittery paranoia thing down well, but maybe it's the rest of the film that doesn't quite do it for me.
It's worth a watch if you're intrigued about Evans' silver-screen capabilities, but as a suspense thriller goes, it doesn't really cut the mustard.
