about

You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.

You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.

Gone in 60 Seconds

the one line review:

gone in more like 45 hours..

the overview

As long as you don't take this film too seriously, it's an enjoyable little romp, especially for fans of posh cars.

the plot:

Kip Raines (Ribisi, made famous by playing Frank Jnr, Pheobe's brother, in Friends) has become a car thief, taken a job to steal 50 cars, and cocked it up. The fella who he's doing the job for is a bit miffed, so he gets Kip's brother, Memphis Raines (Cage) to do the job, otherwise the brother dies. So Cage agrees, assembles a team of crooks (Jolie and Jones included) and they set about stealing all these beautiful cars.

That's about the size of it.

the verdict:

This film has cheese oozing out of every cylinder. There's no escaping that, really, it's not a brilliant film. But if you're prepared for that, you can actually sit back and enjoy it. Aside from the beautiful cars (this film but the Ford Mustang on the commercial map) and the beautiful woman (Jolie, looking quite voluptuous indeed), it's a fairly ordinary action thriller, with a few laughs along the way.

The graphics aren't great (the big ol' jump scene is laughable) but the chase scenes are enough to make up for it.

Definitely worth a watch, and maybe even a buy. Put it this way, I've got a copy of it, and must have watched it 10 times. It's got longevity, fo' sho'.

Once you've seen it, check out the goofs section for this film on IMDB - there's loads. Then watch it again!
