You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.

You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.

Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets

the one line review:

harry #2

the overview

Harry's back in more wizardly type antics. And yes, I do believe I just made the word "Wizardly" up.

the plot:

Harry's back at Hogwarts for his second year. Once again, someone is up to no good, this time involving a secret Chamber that was built in the school a thousand years ago to store something really nasty and evil. Only one person can open the Chamber... guess who it is?! Actually, no, it's not Harry. It's evil Voldemort, Harry's nemesis (and the same chap who killed his parents).

Harry spends his time with gingangooner Ron Weasly and the underaged-but-gonna-be-quite-fit Hermione figuring out the problem and saving the day again. Quite why one of the adults doesn't do it, I'll never know (this seems to be a theme that's going to become quite common), but then, it is a book about old Hazza.

the verdict:

Much better than the first one - darker, and more tense, but sadly, this one is too long. It's 2hr 20 minutes long, which is about 40 minutes too long. There's lots in there, and it's all entertaining, but they could easily have stripped some of the crap out.

Nevertheless, I'm sure Harry Potter fans will approve of the conversion from book to film. (Me, personally, am in no position to comment as I have neither read nor have any intention to read the books).

Contains big spiders. And a big snake. Arf arf.
