about

You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.

You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.

Johnny English

the one line review:

the overview

There was no surprise that this film was bloody ridiculous. Rowan Atkinson has a certain charm though... probably Blackadder.. that makes films with him just about bearable.

the plot:

Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) is the only MI7 agent in the country after all the other agents are blown up at a funeral. And when a plot to dethrone the Queen is discovered, he is charged with protecting the crown jewels and finding the culprit. Natalie Imbruglia assists.

the verdict:

What do you expect? It wasn't actually as stupid as I expected it would be, but that's not to say it's a good film.

It's watchable, especially with Natalie Imbruglia in it (whom, for the uninitiated, was Beth in Neighbours AND is a total honey) but don't expect anything at all intellectual. It's enjoyable enough if you're a fan of the Atkinson scool of humour, which derives mainly from Blackadder style comedy.
