about

You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.

You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.

the overview

Blockbuster has been pants lately. I use their mail order service where you select a bunch of titles on their website, and they send you them as they become available. Recently, they've been completely unable to send me any of the latest Blockbuster's, which means I have to resort to adding lesser films that I'm not so interested in seeing.

the plot:

Sean Bean owns a house on the coast of Wales surrounded by some very scary sheep (seriously). When his ex-wife (we assume) and daughter come to visit the history of the house comes in to play. When the daughter goes missing, and a new little girl turns up in place, "people need answers", which include solving the mystery of the house, and ultimately, some more people dying.

the verdict:

Meh. It's generally a pretty good film. Sean Bean is a good actor, as is Maria Bello. Everyone does their part. The little girls are suitably cute AND scary at the same time.

It's a fairly run-of-the-mill horror/mystery/undead type arrangement, and it's a little far-fetched. When the wife is dead and floating around in the sea but is really alive, and... well, you get the picture.

And then there are the sheep. The really scary sheep. (In my book, sheep aren't scary and never will be. Apart from meat and wool, their only real purpose in life is for the creation of crap jokes about Welshmen and Australians).

It's nicely made, and has some good moments, but there's not much new here.

do i look fat in this?
