You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.
You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.
remake of a classic does OK
I don't remember renting this - it turned up in its little blue packet shouting "view me view me" and I had nothing better to do, so why not. I had no idea it had Stiffler in it, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Bo and Duke Hazzard are cousins in Hazzard County (Georgia) who are proper hillbillies, who race around in their 1969 Dodge Charger ("General Lee"). When Boss Hogg reveals a dastardly plan to take over Hazzard County and turn it into a massive coal mine, the Duke Boys (ably assisted by Daisy Duke - Jessica Simpson) do their best to stop him.
Enjoyable stuff. Totally cheesy - and a kind of Road Trip/American Pie meets, erm, Smokey and the Bandit I guess. Mainly because of the gratuitous and unnecessary (but well received) boob shots halfway through. Jessica Simpson doesn't do it for me, but no doubt she's quite hot. Stiffler, er, I mean, Seann William Scott is his usual quirky kind of self, and Johnny Knoxville gets away from his Jackass role with a good performance. Star of the film is without doubt Willie Nelson who does a top job as Uncle Jessie. Burt Reynolds is tired and irritating.
As a tribute to the original series, this film is a worthy contribution. The special features on the DVD are good - they rightly show how the film is all about the car - and this is accurately described in the cinematography. Lots of fun and lots of silliness, so worth a watch.
