You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.

You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

the one line review:

il buono, il brutto, il cattivo

the overview

Uh-huh. This film made Clint Eastwood (well this and Dirty Harry). It's technically a Western, but with a smaller does of gun-toting horseriding than usual.

the plot:

Gee. Three chaps, all bandits of some description, ride around the midwest on horses making money in various scams or otherwise. When it's discovered that some dead fella robbed $200,000 in Gold and buried it in a secret place, they all want to find it.

the verdict:

Sounds dull, but it isn't. There's something captivating about this film, that just keeps you watching and watching. I mistakenly saw the superlength everlasting English extended edition which was about three hours long, but it was worth it. Clint is Clint is Clint before he got old. Tuco his crazy Mexican (?) friend/enemy is brilliant.

The thing about the film is that it's serious, with a sense of humour. Apart from being a moral piece on the state of the American Civil War and how pointless it all was, there's enough in this for everyone to keep y'all interested.

Without doubt a mustsee and probably a mustbuy.

good bad ugly. which is who?
