You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.

You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.

The Hills Have Eyes

the one line review:

the overview

The Hills Have Eyes. Huh. Sounds like it's going to be crap. It's a remake of an original Wes Craven classic.

the plot:

An extended family are driving across America on holiday together in a big caravan thing. They stop for fuel, manage to piss off the attendant, who then sends them down a "shortcut". When their caravan breaks down, it turns out they're not alone in the desert in the middle of nowhere.

the verdict:

I didn't know that Emilie De Ravin was in this before I rented it. If I had known, I would have rented it ages ago. She's the total blonde Australian hottie made famous by Lost and I love her. She's looking cute as ever in this.

Unfortunately, the film doesn't really live up to expectation... it's all a bit too predictable. It turns out the weird zombie dudes were created after years of (denied) atomic weapons testing. Marvellous.

There's some good suspense, and each character that survives get suitably bloodied along the way, but other than that, I didn't get much from it.
