about

You're reading a really old version of matt-thornton's website. For example, if you're looking at the movie reviews... you'll notice that none of them are of recent films. Indeed, I leave them here for posterity's sake, but I doubt very much that they'll get updated anytime soon. So have a giggle.

You might, if you're lucky, find something recent from Matt at his blog matt's debates. Kernow bys vyken.

The Jacket

the one line review:

grrrrr

the overview

I just wrote a massive in depth review of this film, and Firefox crashed on me and lost everything. I'm much too lazy to do it all again, so I'll be quick about it.

the plot:

Jack Starks (Brody) is wrongly sent to a mental institution for the murder of a cop. Once there Dr. Becker (Kris Kristofofofofofoffeeeeson aka Whistler in Blade) does all sorts of tests on him like strapping him in a straight jacket and putting him in a morgue drawer. Whilst in the drawer, he goes to the future where he is told about his death by the grown up version of Jackie, a young girl he met before being committed (Keira Knightley).

the verdict:

I had a whole philosophical debate over the ethics and possibility of time travel penned in here. I won't write it again so I'll say two things.

1) Keira Knightley is a total honey, and you see parts of boobular areas in this.
2) It's One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest meets The Terminator meets The Butterfly Effect meets Back To The Future (with a little bit of Vanilla Sky in there for good measure).

If you can detach yourself from the improbability of time travel and the reality of fate and such like, and you have half a brain and are prepared to think a little bit, this film is great. It's also got a good website, so check that out too.
