the overview
This was sent to me by Blockbuster as one of their recommendations, and frankly that's as good as it got. Erm. Actually, the film itself was OK, it was just fucking weird.
the plot:
It's based around a greek myth of Tiresia, a hermafrodite is blinded by a Goddess but receives the gift of clairvoyance. In this, we have a Brazillian transsexual, who is kidnapped by a local fruitloop (who turns out to be a priest), and traps her/him in his basement. When she/he stops getting her/his hormones he/she starts to turn back into a man.
So the dude who kidnaps him/her decides the only treatment is to stab him/her in the eyes with a pair of scissors, and dump him/her in the forest. Fortunately he (as she/he has now become) is taken in a by a local girl who helps him recuperate. In the process though, he's picked up the ability to see future events and starts helping people. Lalala.
the verdict:
I'll admit, when I received this film, I thought it was going to be some fruity lesbian flick, with no real point, but plenty of sapphic voyeurism. I couldn't have been more wrong.
It's actually filmed quite nicely, admittedly it's all in French (says enough really), but you spend the first 30 minutes wondering what the hell is going on, then you see the transsexual naked, when he/she has boobs and a willy. And it just gets weirder from then on.
It actually loses its direction about an hour and a half in, and the ending is a litle weak.
But if you're up for a seriously weird WTFer, then have a go at this.
