the overview
Now. Before I start. May I make one thing perfectly clear. This film ought to get 5 bums. Because it's a good film? No. Because it has Bonnie Somerville in it. And that, in my book, warrants 5 bums anytime. I mean, she's like DAMN, schhhawinggg, ohdi ohdi ohdi ohdi... in the words of big Will Smith, she's like "MmmmmmmmH"...
But sadly, I have a modicum of integrity, and can't give this film 5 bums just because of her.
the plot:
4 kids grew up togethr, best buds. Then they got old. One of them went off and killed hisself doing something daring. The three go to the funeral, find a treasure map they made as kids to some money a parachutist left when he jumped into a forest and they all decide to go up river to find said cash. Along the way they encounter various setbacks (bears, weed plants, big fat men with guns) until they finally realise their destiny.
the verdict:
Everyone in this has done better. Many of the usual teen flick suspects are here, but frankly, this film doesn't make enough of a statement to be anything in particular. It spends too much time trying to press the moral on you, that it forgets about the slapstick humour it's supposed to be doing. Sure, there are enough moments in there to get itself in the genre, but it doesn't have the flare or penache of Road Trip, or Scream or even American Pie to work.
But hell, it has Bonnie Somerville in it, so I mean, maybe it could get 5, er, I mean... it... damn it. I can't do it. Yeh, it's entertaining enough, but doesn't have enough.
